Mandera Phillip McFarlane is not only a top producer, but also a great recording and mix engineer. Started out learning the trade while in high school in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, his ear for sound was spotted by a veteran engineer and producer Calvin Reid at Tallas Recording Studio in the town centre. Phillip went on to pursue a music career at the Edna Manley College of Performing Arts in Kingston. His main focus Performance in Popular Music Studies, however he was heading to studios around the city to learn sound engineering in which he met Pioneer Stephen Stewart who have worked and mix for Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, Burning Spear and many more. Phillip after years ended up working for Stephen at the legendary Harry J Recording Studio. He eventually branched off and started building his own fan base which saw him mixing many songs with artists such as Agent Sasco, Chronixx, Stephen Marley, EarthKry, Maxi Vargas and many more. Phillip is a well versed keyboard player and happens to be a great producer/arranger. His college music education has enabled him to play all genres from Jazz, Gospel, Dancahall to Reggae. His love for roots reggae grew stronger when he met the great Jamaican Trombonist Nambo Robinson and joined the Idrin Workshop where he learned the history of Ska and Roots reggae. Capturing the right feel sounds and arrangements of the islands treasured music. Phillip went on to form his own Reggae Band called EarthKry which is one of Jamaica leading ones touring the world non stop. Phillip also developed his writing skills which enabled him to wrote many of the songs of EarthKry. However his everlasting dream of owning producing his own music and putting them out on his label became a reality of years of learning. In 2018 he officially launched the label Irie Yute Records and now all songs released are produced and mixed by him. His hunger and ever growing ear for sound is now placing him as one of Jamaica’s top upcoming engineer/producer.
